Helping Habitat for Humanity of PBC

We'll have another "Habitat Morning Show" on Newsradio 1290 WJNO Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m.

The folks from non-profit Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County tell us they are looking forward to it.  Peter Gates is the Director of Retail Operations for the local affiliate.  He runs the thrift store and re-store in our communities.

'Thanks to your station, actually, and some of the folks who work with you, we have been offered this opportunity to do a show and we thought it was a tremendous idea. It gives us an opportunity to educate and inform people about Habitat."

He says there are some misconceptions about Habitat for Humanity, including this one: "that we give away homes to homeless people."

Gates calls this "our real opportunity, real chance here to kinda straighten all that out and get people to understand what we really do."

Habitat for Humanity of PBC selects struggling, working families with low incomes, and helps them fulfil the American dream of home ownership, but those families get no hand-outs.  They have to payback a 30 year interest-free mortgage and spend 400 "sweat equity" hours, which includes helping to build their homes.
