Gov. Scott in WPB to Kickoff Statewide Tax Cutting Tour

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is kicking off a tour pushing $500 million in planned tax cuts around the state as he heads into what could be a tough re-election fight.

Scott recently announced plans to ask legislators to cut taxes next year but hasn't specified which taxes and fees he wants to cut.

The governor began the day Tuesday in West Palm Beach, speaking to a crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

The Republican governor says he maintained a budget surplus in 2014 and wants to use some of the extra revenue to cut taxes. Scott has sought tax cuts every year he has been in office, but his initial efforts encountered stiff resistance from fellow Republicans in the Legislature.

The proposal may also help reconnect him to the conservative base that propelled him to victory three years ago.

Scott will be in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday afternoon, and head to other parts of the state later this week.
