The fourth annual Alcohol Prevention Poster Contest is underway within Palm Beach County's public schools. More than 1,000 students from 38 schools were tasked with designing their own poster encouraging an alcohol-free lifestyle for youth.
The 15 semi-finalists have been discovered, five each from local elementary, middle and high schools.
You are asked to vote through Sunday on your favorite from each school group and two winners from each will be chosen. Those posters will be displayed on school buses, while the designing students will win $50, plus either Adobe Photoshop Elements or Creative Suite software.
The school district teamed up with the Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition and we spoke with the Coalition's Program Coordinator Alexa Lee.
She says the most recent survey of local middle and high schoolers show that 7 out of 10 do not engage in underaged drinking. That number previously was 6 out of 10, so progress is being made.

Semifinalists and top posters from each school will be featured at the 2014 South Florida Fair in the Bink Glisson Museum at Yesteryear Village from January 17th through February 2nd. This year you may also vote for the South Florida Fair favorite from the finalists who were not chosen as bus contest winners. Winners will be notified by January 20th and invited to attend the Awards Ceremony on Monday, February 17, 2014.
